Better Homes & Gardens - 50 Dream Kitchens

When turning their small 1908 Craftsman house into an open, inviting space, Dan and Kerry Finkel wanted a kitchen functional for large family gatherings yet comfortable for everyday meals. A compact but complete 17 X 10 foot work area fulfills this wish.

Angled ends spice up the galley-style kitchen. One end features a cooktop, an undercounter oven, and dishwasher, the other houses a refrigerator, microwave oven, wine rack, and television.

A two-teired island mimics the galley's angles while directing traffic out of the main work area. The island provides plenty of work space, seating or friends and family to chat with the cook, and a second wall oven. Burgundy-stained cherry cabinetry with partial reveals of frosted glass adds elegance to a space that is always on display in the open home.
