Challenge:
The clients required a Kosher kitchen. Their narrow gallery space left little room for storage and even less room for their cooking and entertaining needs.
Solution:
Designer, Rick Glickman, came to the rescue with a creative boomerang space that would fit the existing footprint of the home yet make the most of the space available. The new kitchen features streamlined function from end to end. A convenient desk center with useful cubby storage anchors one end of the gently curved boomerang. Sand-through white on maple cabinetry and striking Uba Tuba granite wrap around the uniquely shaped space to form a new family room at the opposite end. This area includes built-in cabinetry with pullout shelves for the TV, CD and tape storage; open shelves display books and family treasures.
The homeowner's cooking requirements were met with two ovens; one of which is raised to a more comfortable height. A raised area behind the sink serves as a backsplash to prevent splatters and also houses and electrical outlet to serve the desk area.
Storage needs were answered with a wall of cabinetry, including 12-inch deep floor-to-ceiling pantries and a broom closet with an interior outlet to charge the hand-held vacuum. This angled closet serves as a smooth transition to the bumped out refrigerator.
